Opera Australia

Opera Australia

Part of IBM’s sponsorship of Opera Australia were the annual dinners for selected clients, featuring operatic works in production at the time – and the opportunities afforded by their exotic settings were too good to refuse.

For Aida, guests were greeted by a pair of live camels, then encountered the regal stare of a large gold sphinx. In the main hall, against a mural of desert sands and pyramids, gold and black stripes established a geometric Egyptian theme … the astonishing transformation of the opera company’s scenery dock was complete.

Similarly, Madame Butterfly was brightly and delicately Japanese, with bubbling watercourses and miniature footbridges forming the centrepieces on each table.
